Had not spent much time in this area before, and now I know what I was missing. Stretching from the Sac. valley to Lake Tahoe, Placer County, served by I-80, has so many recreational opportunities that it will take me years to discover for myself, and that doesn’t include all the fishing, which I haven’t gotten into.
As a hiker, I took two great hikes in a single day. One was at Big Hill, a Placer Land Trust property, a beautiful oak woodland with a wonderful view point. The other was on Auburn SRA, a multi-use state park. Yes, there are places there where even hunters can have fun. The hike took us along a fork of the American River and along the route used by the famous 100 mile run from Squaw Valley to Auburn. That’s right, people run over the mountains for 100 miles, but don’t ask me why.
The Auburn area is also a great biking destination, with many miles of rolling hills and country roads. And after your day of recreation is over, there is wine and beer for the most fussy taste.
