Grants Pass Kite and Balloon Festival

On June 1 and 2 the annual Kite and Balloon Festival was held at a farm in Grants Pass Oregon. Each morning the balloons would drift around the area, one almost grazing the roof, two landing in our mobile home park. I learned that after they find a open space to land and settle to the ground, they pull a rope which dislodges the sheet that plugs the top of the balloon. This allows it to collapse and fall over.  When they inflate the balloons, they first use a big fan to blow it up enough to put the burner under it and start putting in the hot air that makes it rise.  We even got to go up in one, the Smokey the Bear balloon, which was tethered, so  we only got about 100 feet up in the air. This is well worth seeing. A lovely weekend.
